Eco Factor: Unmanned aerial system runs on hydrogen fuel cells.
Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies’ Aeropak system, which was touted to increase the flight endurance and range of UAVs, has been used by BlueBird Aero System in their latest invention dubbed “Boomerang”. Boomerang is an electric powered 9kg UAS which can fly for over 9 hours using the Aeropak system, which offers 900Wh of electricity in a small 2kg package.
The Boomerang is the world’s first commercial fuel cell unmanned aerial system, which can perform long endurance missions and is a great benefit for border patrol. The UAS is licensed for flights in Israel and is being graded as a “matured” system.
The use of hydrogen-electric power will bring new capabilities to the Boomerang, which will have a small acoustic signature, smaller size and will come with increased effectiveness in increasingly important persistent intelligence.
