Eco Tech: Apple’s new Mac Mini is the ‘world’s most energy-efficient desktop’

Eco Factor: Energy-efficient computer from Apple.

Computer manufacturers have been trying hard to reduce the power consumption of their systems without having any significant impact on the system’s performance. Undoubtedly, they’ve succeeded so far with the help of some ingenious chip manufacturers like AMD and Intel. Apple has joined the fray by releasing a new Mac Mini that the company is claiming to be the “world’s most energy-efficient desktop PC.”

Powered by a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and carrying an integrated NVIDIA GeForce 9400M GPU, the system is touted to consume just 13W of electric power. We don’t really believe until we’ve seen, but if the earlier Mac Mini systems are taken into review then it doesn’t seem to be a bold claim from Apple.

The Dark Side:

The system goes into an energy-efficient mode only when it’s on stand-by, and Apple does not make any claim on the actual running performance of the system.
