Eco Factor: Taxis made from renewable materials cut emissions.
The mayor of a city in the Philippines has rolled out a couple of ecofriendly taxis, which are made from renewable bamboo and are powered by coconut biodiesel. The two vehicles are called Eco 1 and Eco 2, and differ in their seating capacities. The Eco 1 can seat 20 people and can drive for about 80 hours on a gallon of coconut biodiesel. On the other hand, the Eco 2 offers similar performance but can seat just 8 people.
The vehicles are made from 90% bamboo and are covered in traditional Filipino woven mats called banig. Apart from being green, the vehicles are safe, as bamboo offers the same tensile strength as steel used in manufacturing vehicles.
