Eco-One: A high-performance green car, 95% biodegradable

We all think that green cars mean low performance electric cars that need to be charged after a few miles and that do not go beyond the 50-60 mph mark. The Eco-One is beyond all expectations.

This car has tyres made of potatoes, brake pads from ground cashew shells, body from hemp and rapeseed oil and what more… it runs on fuel made from fermented wheat and sugar beet. Can’t get any greener than that!

Don’t go by the credentials, with all this aboard the car still manages to reach speeds up to 150 mph and does 35 miles in a gallon of fuel.

This amazing one-seater racing car has been built by experts from Warwick University, who wanted to prove that green is not synonymous to dull. This car can one day replace cars at the grand prix circuit and can also be adopted by major car manufacturers. The car has been made in just two months at a cost of £20,000.

The designers also claim that mostly all components of the car are recyclable and all the plastic components can be made from plants, the chassis has been designed from steel which is a good recyclable material and also adds to the strength of the car.

Eco-One is powered by an engine from a Triumph Daytona Motorcycle and does 0-100 kmph in less than four seconds. The materials used in the car make it 95% recyclable some other parts such as the steering wheel, seat and electrics have been made using the conventional materials.
