Eco Factor: Sustainable folding house prototype could help disaster relief operations.
When it comes to prefabricated housing, we envision hi-tech homes that can be transported in a truck and erected anywhere in a short span of time. Designers at MMASA and architect-artist Cipriano Chas have thought about the future prospects of low-cost compact houses and have come up with a prototype house dubbed buBbLe that folds into a box.
The prototype consists of a starter kit accommodating facilities for a two-day stay. The design is complemented with kit accessories that can extend the stay for a couple of more days. The house folds into a compact metal locker and can be erected into a 2×2×2 meter cube in minutes.
Made from lightweight plastic, the buBbLe House is erected on a drop-down lightweight aluminum frame. The walls of the cubic house feature an insulating chamber that can be filled with a variety of materials including water, air and grass, which provide a decent level of insulation. If filled with clothes and grass, the walls can also offer privacy from curious eyes.
The house features a water hookup, a small kitchen, laundry and lighting systems to make your stay comfortable.
