Eco Factor: Energy generator harnesses kinetic energy.
The ever growing demand for clean electricity has tempted designers all over the world to develop products that can generate electricity and care for the environment at the same time. Chris Natt has answered this problem with a product he calls the “Universal Generator.”
All the generator needs is some kind of rotary motion to keep the mechanics of the machine moving. The generator incorporates carefully positioned anchors and grooves allowing it to be strapped, suspended or clamped into anything that rotates. The generator can be connected to a wind turbine, water wheel and even to the axle of a donkey cart to generate clean electricity. The generator can be further connected to batteries, which can store all the power the generator generates.
Chris Natt’s Universal Generator is currently competing in the Create the Future Contest, after being chosen as one of the top 5 designs in the Noise Festival 2008 by renowned UK-based designer Tom Dixon.
The Dark Side:
Chris has done a wonderful job in tackling a problem which is widespread in developing countries. The design has nothing in it that can be evaluated critically.
