Eco Gadgets: Static electricity bulb makes your kids play with green electricity

Eco Factor: Static electricity powered light bulb.

Kids do go crazy for toys, and apart from keeping them busy, some toys do impart a lot of knowledge, which can help them all through their lives. While the world is already battling energy sources, which are green and efficient, some designers are busy designing toys that can help them learn about the importance of electricity and some unconventional ways it can be harnessed.

We all know that our bodies generate static electricity, which can be in excess of 10,000 volts, but since the amperage is low, all that electricity doesn’t give us a deadly shock. The static electricity bulb is a small light bulb that can be powered up by the charges flowing through your body. The bulb has been designed to be used by kids above age 7.

The Dark Side:

Like most toys, this one too doesn’t have any practical value, but it does show a way static electricity could be used to power a device. If the research is further developed we might see cellphones powered by our statically charged hair!
