Eco Factor: Solar-powered lantern runs energy saving CFL lamps.
Millions of people residing in rural parts of the world don’t have access to basic amenities like clean toilets and electricity. While the local governments might take a few decades getting the basic facilities to reach these areas, industrial designers are trusting on the natural sources of energy to ease living.
Industrial designer Jui Didolkar has come up with a solar-powered lamp for these parts of the world, which harnesses solar energy during the day and stores it in a built-in lithium-ion battery that fuels a CFL lamp after dark. With only basic systems being used in the lamp, cost won’t be an issue if the lamp ever reaches mainstream production.
