Eco Factor: Fully functional robot made from trash.
While many would believe that the most trash can do is grace your living room if a creative eco-minded artist worked on it, Vu Van Thang, a 19-year-old inventor from Thai Binh province has won one of the five top prizes at the National Creativeness Competition for Children and Youth 2009 for a fully functional robot that has been made from found items.
The organizers received nearly 300 projects and the award went to Vu Van Thang, who has just entered the HCM City Industry University and competed in the competition with a robot that can walk and move its hands just like humans. Aiming to build a household robot from trash, Vu Van Thang equipped the robot with 11 small motors that control its movements.
The robot can move its hands, arms and fingers continuously when it is commanded to do so from a remote control that was made by converting an old computer game control pad into a robot control system.
