Eco Factor: Water saving toilet design by Phoenix Product Development.
UK-based startup company Phoenix Product Development has developed a unique air flush toilet system, which the company claims can save up to 84% water accounting to a total of 85 billion liters of water each day in the UK. The company states that while conventional toilets use over 9 liters of water per flush, the Propelair system requires just 1.35 liters.
The system requires the user to close the lid before flushing, which forms an air seal with the bowl. Once closed a small quantity of water enters the bowl to wash it, followed by displaced air. As the air can’t exit the bowl, it expels the contents of the bowl without water, pumps or maceration. The flushing cycle completes in three seconds after which sufficient water replenishes the water trap seal readying the system for the next use.
