Eco Factor: Cheap, efficient solar modules for golf carts.

Earth Care Green Products has launched new “Peel and Stick Solar Energy” modules, which the company claims can power a golf cart to 36 holes irrespective of solar availability. In direct sunlight the modules can produce about 80 volts of three amps of electricity, which is sufficient to charge the batteries normal golf carts are equipped with.

Unlike conventional solar modules, which stop generating energy in overcast conditions, these modules churn out electricity be it rain or sunshine. The flexible solar modules are made from three layers of amorphous silicon where each layer is tuned to a different level of sunlight frequency. Being flexible the solar panels are robust enough to keep working even after being punctured. The company guarantees the modules for a period of three years, but they claim they can perform well for a period of more than ten years.

Apart from being more efficient, the panels do cost less than other glass-based panels available on the market today. Modules to power a typical golf cart cost $1,695, whereas older glass panels cost about $300 more. The panels weight just 4 pounds and installing it takes just two people and about 15 minutes.
