Eco Factor: Energy-efficient LCDs from Panasonic.
Recently we saw Sharp launching their new energy-efficient LCDs and now we have Panasonic with a similar announcement. The company has decided that slim and energy-efficient are the two keywords to get sales going, especially during an economic crisis. To boost the combined sales of LCD and plasma sets by over 50% during the next financial year commencing April 2009, the company has announced a new range of super-slim, super-efficient LCDs. Scheduled to launch this spring, the 50-inch wide and just 1-inch thick LCD should cost around $6685 and should suck up around 260 kilowatt hours of electricity annually.
The Dark Side:
The efforts of Panasonic and Sharp are commendable. However, the price of these LCDs is much more than other non-eco models, which should have an impact on their global sales.
