Eco Factor: O2 launches energy-efficient universal charger.

Research conducted by O2 states that about £30 million worth of electricity is wasted every year in the UK just because of the improper use of cellphone chargers. If the same amount of electricity is saved, it would prevent tons of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere. Answering the need for energy-efficient chargers, O2 has launched a new universal charger that saves about 70 percent electricity and can charge almost any phone model that is currently available on the market.

The charger meets the energy efficiency guidelines set by the US Energy Star rating program and features a power control system. The charger is available from all O2 UK stores for about £15. If bought with a new handset the charger is available for just £7.49, however, you would have to pay extra for all connection cables that you buy along with this charger.

The Dark Side:

The charger costs much more than what one would pay for a regular charger. If the cost of the charger can be reduced in some way then it surely would tempt mobile users to do something for the environment.
