Eco Factor: Washing machines made from recycled refrigerator plastic.
Indesit has made some changes in their Hotpoint range of washing machine with two new entrants dubbed the Aquarius and Ultima. While both the washing machines come with features such as Eco Wash and high energy-efficiency rating, the one thing that makes them stand apart from other machines available in the market is that they are made from high-grade plastic polymer made from shredded plastic waste recovered from refrigerators, reducing the CO2 emissions, cost and raw materials necessary to build a washing machine.
The project was taken up by the company with the help of Waste & Recycling Action Plan (WRAP) and Axion Recycling. Even after being made from nothing but waste, the machines boast some of the most fascinating technologies that would surely tempt you to buy them this holiday season.
The Dark Side:
While the machine makes use of eco-friendly materials, the processes by which plastic is recycled is not always an eco-affair.
