Eco Factor: Low-power speakers need just 3-50W of amp power.
Gone are the days when good music was accounted mostly to power-sipping amps that consumed hundreds of watts of electricity to generate the lovely sound of a chirping bird. Ferguson Hill is a UK-based company dedicated to making speakers run on low-power amps and still give you unmatched sound quality. The company’s latest system is the FH001, a huge transparent speaker that is green and luxurious at the same time.
The horn speaker is made of clear acrylic and its additional size (which can be the size of your girlfriend) allows it to play nice and loud music consuming just 3 to 50 watts of amp power. Without the need of any power-hungry amp, the speaker system is by far the greenest available on the market at present.
The company claims that the speakers offer a frequency response of 150 Hz to 20 KHz and don’t even need a separate tweeter and midrange drivers to enhance the sound quality. Bass comes from the FH002, a 24-inch acrylic sphere fitted with a 12-inch woofer. But like all luxuries, these speakers do come with a hefty price tag of $26,000 if you purchase the system with the company’s matching electronics.
