Eco Factor: Window shade woven with solar collecting and light emitting materials.

The main reason we use curtains on our windows is to stop daylight and heat from entering the room. Industrial designers Anders Ernevi, Margot Jacobs, Ramia Mazé, Carolin Müller, Johan Redström and Linda Worbin have tried to add another function to curtains by making them generate renewable energy.

The designers have woven solar energy collecting and light-emitting materials in a product they call the energy curtain. During daytime the curtains can be drawn to provide shade and harvest solar energy, which after dark can be used to generate a glowing pattern on the inside of the shade.

The duration for which the curtains are drawn during the day determines the amount of time the curtain will illuminate your room during the evenings.
