Eco Factor: Sculptural streetlights powered by solar energy.
The folks over at Marco De Gregorio have designed a stunning way to make the streets of tomorrow elegant and illuminate them with green energy after dark. Known as the “City Leaves,” the conceptual streetlights are aesthetically designed to resemble natural forms. The system comes with photovoltaic panels that harness the energy of the sun during daytime and store it in on-board batteries.
After dark the built-in batteries release power, which then fuels the LEDs the streetlights are equipped with. Designed to make the streets look elegant during daytime and illuminated during night, the streetlights could actually make people believe that renewable energy powered systems don’t always look dumb.
