Eco Factor: Concept MP3 player powered by kinetic energy.

Cassette tapes are a forgotten piece of technology that is now used by creative artists to develop stuff such as a cassette cupboard. For those of you who just loved waiting for five minutes to get to the next song, Stefano Pertegato has designed the NVDRS Tape MP3 player that merges conventional designs with new technology, adding a bit of green systems as well.

The MP3 player is powered by manual rotation of one of the holes in the cassette, while the other hole is used to fast forward or fast rewind any song you don’t want to listen to. Just like traditional cassette tapes, this MP3 player would have enough memory for 45, 60 and 90 minutes of playtime. It will also have a LED that shows the current energy status of the gadget in three different colors depending on the amount of charge left in the cassette.

The Dark Side:

Rotating a cassette with a finger is not the most convenient means to power a kinetically charged gadget. Of course, one can use ingenious ways to do that, but on the whole the concept doesn’t seem to appeal those who are already sick and tired of this retro technology.
