EcoFactor: An eco-friendly low power consuming PC.

The launch of a low-energy desktop is always welcome in comparison to the hazardous power hungry gadgets. The wonderful PC I’m talking about is PC World’s Advent Eco PC. This new machine packs in a self–cooling system without using a fan, keeping power down to just 25W. That’s less than your average non–green lightbulb, which takes up a relatively hefty 60-70W.

It has a T5250 Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of RAM, 160GB HDD, DVD writer, four USBs and a DVI output, wireless keyboard, and built-in Wi-Fi, which explains the big antenna sticking out of the back. Unlike other computers, this one is built out of 75% recycled materials and packaging and printed materials have been minimized with the setup guide printed on the side of the box. Thus, the whole computer leads to low stress on the growing environmental problems.

The Dark Side:

Many of us fail to realize that our home computers use more than twice the energy compared with this new PC. How can I find a downside to such an energy saving product?
