Eco Factor: An electric toaster that claims to save 35% of energy as compared with conventional toasters.
Ecolectric 2 is the new slice toaster launched by Morphy Richards that apparently saves 35% of energy, which would otherwise be wasted by other electric toasters. The new toaster is one of the many products launched by the firm as a part of its eco-line of appliances, which are aimed at people with a green inclination. The Ecolectric 2 does sound pretty good on the face of it, and by using a simple lid, which is absent in most other slice toasters, it minimizes one-third of energy consumption. Considering that the toaster is one gadget that is pretty common, this could save quite a bit of energy. At £35, it seems to be not too expensive either.
The Dark Side:
The technique of just using a lid to save energy seems a bit too simple and not to the liking of many who generally use a slice toaster. It will also need some testing to confirm the fact that it indeed saves 35% of energy with a simple lid. Moreover, the toaster offers nothing new either in terms of features or in terms of styling. With a look that is so common, it would be hard to encourage people to change to the Ecolectric 2 by dumping their old slice toasters.
