Swedish firm, Wost Man Ecology, have created an innovative toilet that converts human waste into manure. Termed Dry Toilet this could be the answer to all the toilet problems in poor countries.
These novel toilets are based on 19th century European flushes. The toilet has two separate compartments for human excreta and urine – collected below the ground in separate containers. This separation makes possible the conversion of human waste into manure and facilitating the urine collected to be used immediately in the fields.
Ingvar-Nilsson, owner of Wost Man Ecology has successfully used these toilets for 11 years at his farm in Sweden. He tells IANS correspondent:
There is a lot of difference in the farm produce using this manure and the normal one. The only thing is that people should get used to the idea of using human waste as manure. It is safe, ecological and hygienic.
These toilets, in addition to creating manure save a lot of water that is always wasted while flushing.
