Eco-friendly clothes to be made from waste feathers and straw soon!

fallen featherCreating fabrics from waste chicken feathers and rice straw! That really sounds environment-friendly! It sounds eco-friendly from two aspects, one its being made from recycled waste products and another giving a break from the petroleum-based artificial fabrics used in bike jerseys, jackets, carpets and other garments or items – giving birth to health and environment friendly organic clothes.

Threatening the fabric industry, once successful, it will also reduce the cost of fabric as unlike the oil-based raw material, their raw materials are all waste products. Though the research is still in the experimental stage, the new feather and straw-based fiber could be used to spin fabric, as chicken feathers are mostly composed of keratin — the same type of protein found in wool.

All the best to the University of Nebraska researchers for the venture!
