Eco Factor:
Recycles the waste from local industries to generate biofuel for the state.

No matter what many wish to say about biofuel, it is here to stay for a bit longer. While producing biofuel from food crops is not ideal, the fuel has sparked a research spree for finding cheaper and more abundant raw materials for production. The state of California will soon have a new biodiesel plant that will be set up by Darling International, and the Port of San Francisco is another place that will use clean energy. The new plant will recycle fats, waste grease and tallow to generate 7.5-10 million gallons of biodiesel per year.

The plant is not brand new and it would just a revamp of an old rendering facility in the Hunter’s Point district owned by Darling International. The plant will not just produce fuel that would be utilized by the state but would also rid the Bay Area of some toxic waste.

The Dark Side:

The revamped old plant still has given no indication of how this would be done and what the technology used would be. The plant could end up creating more pollution than before in the name of producing energy. This would not help San Francisco too much when it comes to its carbon footprint.
