Eco Factor: Zero-emission car powered by electricity.
The technology behind air-powered cars has been around for quite some time and some car manufacturers have claimed to develop cars that would be powered by air, though no company has till date promised a launch date. Zero Pollution Motors, a start-up is one of the first to announce the development of an air-powered car, which the company claims will hit U.S. markets in 2011.
The company has claimed that apart from being a dream ride for all eco-minded people in the world, the technology used in the car is inexpensive and the car would ultimately cost under $20,000, which is surprisingly less when compared with other electric and hybrid cars already on the streets.
The car would be able to seat six, generate 75HP from its six-cylinder air powered engine and will offer a driving range of close to 850 miles. The air car would use an air compressor to pressurize air in the car’s tank. When the car is driven as slow speeds, the air from the tanks is released which push pistons as in a conventional gasoline car. At higher speed the car uses a small motor to heat the air in order to release it more quickly generating more power.
