Eco Factor: Car modified to run on electricity using recycled materials.
Ingenuity usually comes with age and experience, which allows someone to develop something out of nothing. However, a Kansas teen has proved us to be wrong by modifying an old gas guzzling Ford Escort to run on electricity, even though the inventor didn’t have any previous knowledge about electronics and automobile engineering. 17-year-old Andrew Loader wanted an electric vehicle not because of its low impact on the environment, but because he didn’t want to spend too much on gas.
The need turned Andrew into an automobile engineer, when he converted his clapped-out Ford Escort to run on electricity using some batteries, an old forklift motor and automobile engineering skills from the internet. The recycled systems don’t offer the same performance as newer hi-tech systems do, but still the car somehow manages to have a top speed of 38mph and a range of 11 miles, which is enough to take Andrew to and back from school.
