Eco Factor: Attempts to show the world the potential of solar energy and clean fuel.

Swiss adventurer Louis Palmer had a green adventure in mind when he started off in his solar-powered “Solar-Taxi” to try and go across the globe without using gasoline. This solar-powered vehicle is powered by a $5000 solar panel that can give it a maximum of 200 miles on a single charge, along with the recyclable batteries that help it further. The $15,000 batteries help it reach well beyond the 60 miles that it would otherwise cover in a day. The Solar Taxi has already covered 27,000 miles to date and has seen 28 countries on the way.

The Dark Side:

The very reason Louis Palmer started this adventure seems to have been watered-down with the car that he has chosen for the task. A car with a maximum speed of 35 mph is barely the vehicle to try and encourage people to turn to solar power. It in fact, it shows how far clean energy is still behind conventional power. Moreover, if he chooses to go across the globe on a trip that is apparently not using “even a drop of oil,” then what is he crossing the oceans on—a solar-powered ship? The attempt might be heartening but the result is anything but encouraging.
