Eco Factor: Flat-bed truck powered by hybrid engine.

Green or not, racers at NASCAR events will soon be recovered by a green machine if they end up on the sidewalls trying too much. Miller Industries has launched a new flat-bed truck powered by a diesel-electric hybrid drive train. Dubbed the International DuraStar 4300, the recovery truck is equipped with Eaton’s heavy duty diesel-electric drive system.

The trucks engine comes with an automated clutch that feeds the electric motor and then the automated transmission, ensuring maximum efficiency. For now the system is just available for the Daytona 500 track, but Miller plans to add the hybrid truck to its fleet of vehicles available for NASCAR races all over the United States.

The Dark Side:

The truck is specially built for NASCAR races and the engine has been optimized for the same. Using the same engine for other uses will prove to be highly inefficient.
