Eco Factor: Mercedes-Benz to debut three zero and low-emission cars at the Detroit Auto Show.
Designing a green car is easy on paper and we regularly see some of such concept cars being designed. Mercedes-Benz wants to turn some green driving dreams real at the Detroit Auto Show 2009. It is being reported that the company will be showcasing three new concepts at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show.
The first concept, called the BlueZero E-Cell, will be an electric car that will be powered by lithium-ion batteries, giving the car a 100km range after 2 hours of charging. The second to debut will be the BlueZero F-Cell, which according to its name will be powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. The third car to appear in the prestigious auto show will be the BlueZero E-Plus, which will be a plug-in hybrid, and will have a 3-cylinder engine that will be complemented by a lithium-ion battery pack. This car is expected to go 373 miles on a full tank.
The Dark Side:
It’s been a trend among car manufacturers to debut interesting concepts just to show the ability of their R&D departments, but most of these concepts never make it to the open streets. If Mercedes-Benz really wants to work on their commitment for green cars, they will have to do something much more than showcasing concepts at an exhibition.
