Eco Factor: Zero emission car powered by electricity.

Why spend $100,000 on an all-electric Tesla Roadster when you can benefit the environment in a similar fashion in less than half that cost? That’s what Coda Automotives thought when they developed an all-electric sedan, which will be available to consumers in California in the fall of 2010. The Coda electric sedan is expected to hit the market at a price of $45,000, out of which about $10,000 can be offset by a federal tax credit.

The car will be powered by a lithium-ion battery pack that will be developed by Chinese cell manufacturer Tianjin Lishen Battery. These batteries are able to store 33.8KWh of electricity and can be charged from a standard 110V socket. The company states that if charged using a 220V line, it will take less than 6 hours for a complete charge, which can then help the owner go between 90 and 120miles.

With a 80mph top speed and an ability to do 60mph in under 11 seconds, the car can’t exactly be termed a Tesla killer, but it does sport some perks that include Bluetooth connectivity, GPS system, iPod dock and a satellite radio. In order to keep the cost of the car under control, Coda doesn’t aim to set up a dealer network, as it will be selling the car directly to consumers via its web site. The company is planning to sell about 2,700 electric sedans in 2010.
