Eco Cars: BAIC unveils its first self-developed EV, capable of 160kph

Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Corp (BAIC) has announced the development of its first self-developed electric vehicle that has a potential to rival the other EVs on the market. Dubbed, BE701, the vehicle has an operating range of 200km on a fully charger battery, with a maximum top speed of 160kph.

The developers haven’t set a timeline for mass production of the BE701, but have provided details on a new clean energy vehicle development and manufacturing facility that involves a total investment of $334 million. The facility will be based in the outskirts of Beijing and will have the capacity to make 50,000 EVs and 100,000 hybrid vehicles.
