Eco Factor: Zero-emission pedal-powered boat concept.
We all love to spend our weekends on the lake, but mostly our rides to the open water aren’t green, and it does have an impact on the delicate marine ecosystem. Industrial designers have been successful in keeping our weekend trips to the lake green with the use of modern technology, which actually won’t make it to the real world anytime soon.
Designer Alexandre Bellerose has tried to follow a more minimalist approach in designing a green boat that is powered by its occupants. The pedal-powered boat, dubbed Ilha, is designed with a scalable platform that unfolds to become a small private island of stability and becomes the base for water activities of its users. The foundation is very light and foldable, and can be free up space for other uses.
Although the sun is one of the joys of summer, too much exposure is not desirable and hence the boat comes with an umbrella that unfolds like a fan on each side and can be oriented to provide the necessary sun protection.
