Eco Factor: Catamaran made from recycled materials gets powered with a piezoelectric dance floor.
Designed by Chris Rose, the GO2 catamaran will be an exclusive, high quality entertainment venue that is designed to operate along the river Thames. GO2 will also provide transport and entertainment for up to 40 VIP guests attending concerts and other such events at the O2 arena, London. The 100% electricity-powered catamaran will also ensure that your entertainment doesn’t make the environment dull.
The greenest feature of the catamaran is not that it is powered by electricity but it is the way this catamaran generates electricity for itself. The catamaran is equipped with a piezoelectric dance floor that charges the onboard deep cycle batteries using the kinetic energy of the people who are dancing on it. These batteries then power two electric motors, one on each hull, which can maintain high efficiency over a wide range of speeds.
To increase the sustainability and eco-friendliness of the design the structural aspects of the design and hulls are designed to be made from marine ply, as it is easily manufactured and recyclable. Other materials used in the design consist of single glazed glass and recyclable plastics.
