Eco Factor: Lithium-ion battery supported bike.

Over the years biking has evolved from an adventure sport to an eco-minded person’s ride to the office. Most of us who love sitting on the rear seat of a chauffeur-driven sedan, don’t want leave the luxuries bestowed onto us in an effort to go green, especially if pulling over from luxuries requires some physical exercise all the way to the office. The 2009 Optibike can put an end to all these exercise chores with a lithium-ion supplement.

Designed by award winning bike designer Jim Turner, the 2009 Optibike comes with feather-light carbon fiber components, GPS navigation system and a fully integrated PDA to display the bike’s performance in real time. The lithium-ion batteries allow you to ride pedal-free for two hours. The bike doesn’t isn’t cheap either, bearing a $13,000 price tag, and only two dozen bikes are made annually. So if you are really interested in one then you can email Optibike or call them using the numbers on their webpage.

The Dark Side:

The bike features don’t complement the hefty $13,000 price tag. With a rapid-charging bike costing no more than $3,000, we don’t see many who would be interested in paying four times that for a bike with GPS and a PDA.
