EcoFactor: Electric unicycle with self-balancing technology.

Less rubber on the road means more efficiency. Based on the same concept, several single-wheeled motorcycles have been showcased, and if you were not satisfied with the looks of the Uno, then here is another chance for you to enter the “greens.”

Focus Designs has unveiled a unicycle that will put an end to pedaling fatigue with an electric engine that can take you 12 miles at 8 mph. The SBU or Self Balancing Unicycle comes with a system of accelerometers and gyroscopes that control the forward and backward balance. The rider here would just have to concentrate on sideways movement. The company claims that average customers will need just 2 hours of practice to master riding skills on the SBU, and if you are trying too hard, then a built-in sensor warns you of the same so that you can slow things down before you end up on the pavement.

With a price tag of $1500, the 25-pound machine will be launched in November, but eager customers would have to wait a little bit longer as the company is initially planning to roll out just 10 SBUs.

The Dark Side:

The 12-mile range and a top speed of a mere 8 mph seem to pull things back for the company. Moreover, the unicycle comes with just a couple of footrests. We somehow feel that if the gyroscopes didn’t perform up to expectations and if the 2-hour practice round was just not enough, then the rider could well end up on an electric wheelchair instead.
