Eco Factor: Bicycle made from plywood.

Reducing the dependency on fossil fuels and metals has made industrial designers focus their attention on bikes and renewable wood. Merging the two needs has made designer T Scott design a bicycle with a wooden frame.

Dubbed the Embira, the bicycle has been made from renewable materials that include plywood for the frame and recycled materials for the handlebar, saddle and handle grips. The 3kg frame is made like a box where the walls are made from 4mm plywood, which is infused with PU foam for added strength.

The entire transformation process was accomplished without screws, as it uses wood joinery and glue for the joints. With no breaks, the rider has to force the pedals in reverse to stop the bike.
