Eco Factor: Solar-powered installation mimics natural flowers at a large scale.

Israel-based designers Gaston Zahr & Merav Eitan have designed the Night Garden for the “Light in Jerusalem Festival” at Gan Habonim, in Israel. The installation enchants the visitors and immerses them in the sensual delight of magical light, bright sounds and fragrant aromas. Powered entirely by solar energy, the installation carries flowers of different sizes and types of illumination that intermittently open and close to change their appearance.

Apart from the changes in shape, the solar-powered installation also changes its looks by subtle changes in the color of the flowers. The flowers are made from steel wires with a metal mesh covering and laser-cut panels and Hebron glass spheres. The solar panels used on the site provide 730W of green electrical power each hour, which powers the LEDs of 1W to 3W at a 24V system.

Designed in collaboration with Israel Electric Corporation, the garden demonstrates the viability of renewable energy in outdoor installations. The garden also offers a peaceful way to relax after a tiring day at work.
