Eco Factor: Sustainable treehouse powered by solar energy.
Lord, Aeck & Sargent Architects have constructed a sustainable treehouse that will serve as green living playground for kids with special needs. Dubbed the Wild Side, the treehouse is designed to be completely wheelchair accessible and provide a space where kids could seamlessly connect with nature.
Constructed as an extension to Camp Twin Lakes, the sustainable treehouse carries a 1700-square-foot green roof garden, which replaces the displaced forest floor. In addition to the green roof, the Wild Side features a 1.4KW eight-module photovoltaic solar array to provide energy to the treehouse, two dry composting toilets and three dome skylights to provide natural illumination.
