Eco Factor: Disused railway line surrounding Gwangju to be converted into a green corridor.
Commissioned to do a study to transform a 10.8km disused railway line surrounding the city-heart of Gwangju into a usable green corridor West 8 Architects have come up with a green serpent design that will span the entire length of the railway line and connect 20 public schools.
For passing over the Gwangju stream, West 8 has proposed the building of a landmark, a botanic bridge. The parabolic bridge will be 35m high and will consist of 24 concrete tree-pots ranging from a height of 4m to 7m. The tree-pots will be planted with representative samplings of indigenous Korean flora.
