Eco Factor: Sustainable development to harvest renewable energy and rainwater.

With a population of about 500,000 inhabitants, the Gold Cost is expected to grow at a rate of 16,000 inhabitants each year, doubling the population by 2030. Recognizing the need for sustainable developments, Super Colossal has come up with a green master plan for the Gold Coast Cultural and Civic Precinct.

The 16.5-acre site is bordered on three sides by rivers and canals. The proposal presents an aerodynamic solution to climate protection by shielding excess wind and sun, which is extremely important in this region. The large area of public parkland on the western edge of the site will be densely vegetated and act as a green lung for the city.

The roof areas of the developments will be occupied by photovoltaic arrays that contribute to power generation for the area. The large expanse of the roof will be suitable for collecting rainwater that will then be reused for flushing and for landscaping. The perimeter skin will provide natural light and ventilation to reduce the energy demands. Widespread bicycle use will also be encouraged to reduce the dependency on polluting vehicles.
