Eco Factor: Green residential tower incorporates sustainable features to encourage green living.
Faro Architecten BV has just won a design competition hosted by the city of Almere to develop a tower for urban villas and a residential tower for the Cascade Park. The winning entry was a tower design that will be a part of an equally stunning park. At least 57 residences will form the head or the tail of the park. The park will be growing on the public side of the tower in the form of green balconies.
The towers façade consists of photovoltaic and PCM panels, which will make the tower energy neutral over the year. The roof has been designed to capture the most of the sun while capturing rainwater to irrigate the gardens and balconies. The design also includes the development of various sky gardens at different levels of the tower, which will be irrigated by rain harvested water.
Residents will be involved in the part to promote a neighborhood feel in this tower. It will also have a restaurant and collective DIY shops and several guest quarters that could be used by the people living inside.
The Dark Side:
We commend the architects for bringing up something that caters to almost all the needs of anyone living in an urban environment. However, with just 57 residences it won’t do much good.
