Eco Factor: Sustainable development to make use of natural resources.
Perkins+Will have emerged as winners in the “Conceptual Design” category at the 8th International Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism with a sustainable masterplan for Beijing. Dubbed the SANY masterplan, the plan consolidates existing plans into one.
SANY, the largest heavy equipment manufacturer in China, was in need of an efficient manufacturing area and a complex that created a memorable visitor experience. The architects came up with a sustainable complex that exists in harmony with nature and uses natural sources for illumination and heat.
The architects have created and preserved wetlands while protecting sensitive watersheds. The buildings are designed for optimal orientation and community interaction. The design has been inspired by the Peng, a Chinese mythological bird, which unifies the three main buildings for both design and operational functionality.
