Eco Factor: Sustainable housing project powered by PV modules.

Magnusson Architects have proposed a new 6.5 story housing complex featuring 40 rental units for New York. The sustainable building will integrate passive solar heating with daylight design to minimize heat gain and also reduce energy to be used for indoor lighting. The complex will merge high performance features with smart building technology.

Apart from minimizing heat gain, the complex will generate about 50KW of electricity with a large photovoltaic array mounted on the uppermost roof, as a shade canopy for the 6th floor and lobby. The south facing architecture will enable the solar panels to generate about 50,000 KWh of green electricity annually, which would be used to power the complex.
