Eco Factor: Sustainable pavilion for Shanghai World Expo 2010.

Architects all over the world are trying to design pavilions that cater to Shanghai World Expo 2010 theme of “Better City, Better Life”. Ida and Billy have showcased the Hong Kong pavilion design that comes on the theme of “Hong Kong – A city with unlimited potential”.

The sustainable pavilion represents a city with physical boundary slashed to unfold its infinite dimension. This infinite dimension is made by infinite reflections generated by reflective membrane on the sky and floor. The pavilion’s skin waves with wind and subtly alters its texture and lighting.

The 3-level pavilion represents Hong Kong’s infrastructure as the foundation of Hong Kong’s success. The second level features infinite creativity and idea exchange. Interactive monitors embedded on the undulating platforms interact with LED lights on the columns to turn the space into an area for information exchange.

The third level defines the future with sustainable development. The area features screens for gentle natural light and ventilation, which are covered with large projections of real-life videos of natural wonders of Hong Kong.
