Eco Factor: Sustainable pavilion for Shanghai Expo 2010 will be covered in natural stone.

Designed by Haim Dotan Architects, the Israeli pavilion at Shanghai Expo 2010 will have a unique design that looks like two clasped hands. The pavilion will be divided into three areas – the hall of light, the hall of innovations and the Whispering Garden.

According to its name, the Hall of Light will be covered with transparent PVC/glass to ensure that the interiors remain illuminated with natural light. This area will also include a 15m screen inside a glass space that shows films that highlight the country’s technological advancements.

The Hall of Innovation will be the heart of the structure and will be covered in natural stone to symbolize a connection to the Earth and recycling of natural materials. The Whispering Garden area will use surrounding trees to whisper in English and Chinese, greeting messages for visitors as they walk close to them and enter the building.
