Eco Factor: Sustainably lit sports complex proposed for 2014 Winter Olympics.
Asadov Architectural Studio, Project-KS and Grado Project Company have proposed an alternative design concept to the State Corporation, Olympstroy for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games sports complex to be constructed in Sochi, Russia.
Dubbed the Snow Russia, the masterplan unifies the design of the complex, with the central Olympic square to be built without a central architectural idea. The design firm has proposed that a “snowy whirlwind falling over the Olympic buildings in the form of frosty mist” will be created on the side of the load-bearing structures with decorative panels constructed from aluminum or a composite material.
After-dark LED lighting will be used for accent lighting, and the system can be harmonized to create a lighting show, which will help the complex save energy and reduce stress on the grid.
