Eco Factor: Solar-powered playground made from sustainable materials.

When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans it left it without many houses and playgrounds. Since then kids in this part of the world didn’t have a proper place to play. However, now a group of organizations that include the Make it Right Foundation, PlayGreen Initiative, Kellogg’s Corporate Citizenship Fund and KOMPAN, donated nearly $500,000 worth of services and playground equipment that led to the development of the one-of-a-kind playground in New Orleans.

The playground has been built using local supplies, recyclable materials, native paintings, among some other ecofriendly features that include water conservation systems, solar energy for the electrical equipment and lighting on the playground and recyclable materials for its construction. The park will be an integral part of the recovery for the Lower Ninth Ward.

The Dark Side:

The playground has been made as ecofriendly as it could be. We really appreciate the efforts of organizations like Make it Right Foundation, who have taken productive steps to restore a community after it saw the devastative powers of Mother Nature.
