Eco Factor: The terminal includes solar panels and other renewable resources to reduce emissions.
A new terminal designed by Foster + Partners and developed by Ferrovial Agroman and Laing O’Rourke’s was unveiled today by BBA. The new terminal is said to produce 40% less carbon emissions along with introducing new facilities to passengers. This new terminal known as Terminal 2 is expected to be built under a budget of £1 billion and will provide 20 million passengers to Star Alliance airlines every year.
In order to reduce emissions, the structure will use large north-facing windows in the roof allowing natural light to flood in. Other than this, solar panels on the roof will provided a part of required energy to the building. Further, the design includes some other renewable sources of energy to make it more sustainable and less dependent on external energy supplies.
