Eco Factor: Net zero energy school gets powered by on-site solar panels.
Mikou Design Studio has unveiled plans for the Docks School in Saint Ouen, France, which will be a sustainable development powered by onboard solar panels. The development will be visible because of its roof, which provides a stepped tier structure offering space for various departments.
The scheme’s stepped volumes include a primary school arranged in a strip from the ground floor to the second upper floor, a nursery school arranged in another strip on the first upper floor and a cafeteria that opens both onto the garden on the ground floor and onto the viewpoint on the new road.
The nursery and the primary school are sheltered by canopies laden with photovoltaic panels, which are inclined at an angle of 30 degrees for maximum sun exposure. These panels are spaced by solid metal strips to avoid shadows being cast.
