Eco Factor: Zero-emission mountain bike powered by electric motor.

Columbus-based Jennifer Holt has created a DIY electric mountain bike powered by a homemade battery pack carrying about 144 3.3V lithium-ion cells. The bike’s frame has been designed from scratch and includes a full suspension to make off-road trips more comfortable.

The speed of the bike has been limited to 30mph, to keep the rider safe, since the low gearing and large motor leads to an insane amount of torque. Acceleration is also limited by the friction between the rear wheel and the ground, so the rider has to lean forward to keep the front wheel down while accelerating.
