I love making artwork and hand-crafts to decorate my home. But I really hate having to dish out major bucks in making many of those little tidbits that would in fact cost less if I bought them ready made. That’s why I really loved this handy DIY project that tells you how to make your own paper “shoji” style lamp at home with recycled materials. All you need is a few craft knives, scissors, diagonal/wire cutter or even nail clippers, a very sturdy 2-layer corrugated cardboard preferably a leftover from previous projects, any paper of your choice (go for tracing paper if you want a real exotic looking lamp), old chopsticks or kebab skewers made in bamboo or wood, wire, flex, switch and CFL bulb.
Now all you gotta do is to make a steady frame from the chopsticks or skewers, cover it with paper, line it with the corrugated paper on the bottom, throw in the flex, wire the thing, add a bulb and voila! You have yourself a very cheap but very attractive DIY Japanese lamp for under £5. Is it a bargain, or what?
